Man charged in Montreal’s 16th homicide of the year

A suspected has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide downtown in April.

The victim of Montreal’s 16th homicide of the year was a 64-year-old man who was found unconscious in his home after relatives contacted police to say they hadn’t heard from him. The victim, who showed signs of having been attacked, died of his injuries in a hospital a few days later.

The suspect, 48, was in the home when the police arrived in April. He was arrested for aggravated assault and has been incarcerated since.

Dean Meister was charged at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday, the police said in a press release.
