Not since the Bubonic plague 'has a state been in such a panic over a disease'

Sky News host Chris Smith says not since the days of the Bubonic plague or the Spanish flu have Australians seen a state “in such a panic over a disease”.

On Tuesday it was revealed Victorians living in one of the state’s ten coronavirus hotspots will be banned from leaving their homes if they don’t qualify for one of four exemptions.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the radical stage three restrictions will be enforced from 11.59pm Wednesday night in a desperate bid to take back control of the state’s surging coronavirus outbreak.

Victoria has had 64 new infections of COVID-19 on Tuesday, which follows the 75 new cases on Monday.

Mr Smith said Tuesday’s announcements by the Premier signified his “toughest lockdown measures yet in this pandemic”.
