The Quebec government announced it will provide $150 million in funding to school service centres to stock up on new digital and computer equipment for the next school year.
Jean-François Roberge, Quebec’s minister of education, made the announcement Sunday.

The education ministry said a data collection summary carried out in the spring revealed nearly 80,000 students do not have access to the technological tools needed to continue their education online.
The government estimates the funding will allow school servicecentresto acquire a minimum of 200,000 tablets and laptops. The funds will also allow school service centres to benefit from training and support for school staff.
However, school service centres must make their needs known to the education ministry by June 19.
“Let’s be clear: We are working on a back-to-school season for all Quebec students next September, and we are confident that we will succeed,” Roberge said.
